If you are planning a crime make sure you don’t carry Apple’s iPhone or the iPad.

Why? They can trace your location and and are willing to share it. It will help the advertisers to send targeted ads to you.

You can opt-out targeted ads if you wish to do so but not out of their location tracking.

The updated privacy policy for mac, iphone and ipad excerpt from ilounge

Apple and its partners use cookies and other technologies in mobile advertising services to control the number of times you see a given ad, deliver ads that relate to your interests, and measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns. If you do not want to receive ads with this level of relevance on your mobile device, you can opt out by accessing the following link on your device: http://oo.apple.com. If you opt out, you will continue to receive the same number of mobile ads, but they may be less relevant because they will not be based on your interests. You may still see ads related to the content on a web page or in an application or based on other non-personal information. This opt-out applies only to Apple advertising services and does not affect interest-based advertising from other advertising networks.

Please note that even though this affects all Apple products, it is particularly useful on on its mobile devices like the iPhone and the iPad.

The most hyped result of tracking internet users clicking behaviour has been released by ComScore. The number of people who click on ads have reduced drastically and what’s more 8% of those account for 85% of the click. So, if you are using PPC advertisement on your blog then you might have noticed a drop in the click-through-rate of your ads. This occurs because of ad blindness. People have got used to the “ads by google” block that their eyes automatically seems to skip them. I personally fail to even notice flash ads on websites I visit daily unless of course they are intrusive like the ads which will overlay your webpage and won’t go until you click the tiny close icon on top corner of the ad. People have started to even block these ads using various ad blocking scripts.

However, people continue to click on contextual ads(read google) when the ad blocks are placed at good places on the website.

Does this mean that publisher revenue will reduce? Not significantly, if you have a good website with good traffic. Unless the publisher network implements smart pricing, you will get good value for click because of simple theory of economics. As the number of people clicking on ads reduces the advertisers will have to shell out big bucks to get those clicks.

CPA companies will greatly profit because of these. Most publishers would be forced to ditch CPC and embrace CPA. Promote products through innovative ways, do competitions on their sites, charge for writing content(PPP), etc. Just look at the number of CPA companies that have cropped up. Clickbank proudly flaunts the amount it has payed on its homepage. Then there are many companies which selects affiliates after pre screening them and trust me, getting into their network is extremely difficult for newbies. Many new networks have cropped up who are not fussy about Publishers website or anything else. Examples are Commission Junction, HighProfits , LinkShare and AffiliateBot.

Technological websites are the best way to make money online. The more how-to associated articles in your sites the more visitosr you are likely to get. Internet related sites too acquire respectable traffic.

So in order to monetize from it you need to place ads on it. The first choice is of course Google’s Adsense due to it’s superior CTR and CPC. Then there are several like chitika, ypn, bidvertiser, etc.

However, the hitch is that the majority of your users would be geeks,(not true for reviews website as non-geeks will also visit for reviews) they probably might have embraced Firefox and a good number probably might have installed addon called Adblock Plus which blocks most of these ads.

You might have noticed that impression shown in your adsense stat is fewer than the actual impression. So, how to go around this?

The option is to engage in direct advertising hosted on your own server. As the url of the ad will be different(adblock plus works by detecting ad url like pagead….. For adsense) adblock plus will not be able to block this. But, make sure your url does not contain the word “ads”, “sponsored”,etc.

However, visitors can block these ads manually. But then only regular visitors would do this. Search engiene visitors will see your ads and hopefully click it.

This doesn’t mean you must paste your page with ads. Number of ads does not matter, it is content and the relationship with readers along with ad placement that matters. The best example is Reddit.com website which has very little ads and which are hardly intrusive.
